History of the Cymbal Adapter
Cleveland, Ohio 1971 - While on the road I (Dudley J. Taw) developed the first DUPLICATE X (DX) adapter to precisely position my cymbals. When home, I would load my van with adapters I had built and sell them to independent music stores.

1980 - I came off the road permanently and did studio work. I began producing the DUPLICATE X line full time. Selling again exclusively to independent music stores.

June 1982 - Advertised the DUPLICATE X adapter in Modern Drummer of the first time. By 1983 everyone was producing cymbal adapters - overseas.

The DUPLICATE X design had been copied - that was reality, but the copies were full of imperfections. What were the differences between the DX and the copies?

The copies were made and still are made from pot metal and have an attachment system that damages the stand. If used by a hammer mechanic would more often than not snap the top of the stand.

The DX is made from aircraft aluminum and alloy steel. It has a tool steel machined threading system that allows the bottom threads to move side to side so it securely locks down on any cymbal stand. Put it to the test - lift the stand by the DX adapter and shake!

The copy's claim to fame - 1 size fits all. Sure, I thought! Who would believe that? But many did and sad to say still do! Stop and think for a monment. If you took 10 stands off the assembly line and put a micrometer to the threading - did you know that they would be significantly different? How can there be a universal fit?

The DX adapters come in 3 sizes: 6mm, 8mm, and US 1/4 20. DX comes in 2 lengths: 6 and 12 inch for precise positioning. We put the cymbal where the manufacturer thinks it should be.

DX comes with a LIFETIME GUARANTEE - not fancy legalities but with our word and 35 years of service to back it.

They may have copied DX, but can never Dupilicate it!
